The death toll in the country has reached 1422 while Sindh has recorded the highest number of deaths with 594 casualties during the recent monsoon rains.

 

Federal Mini­s­ter for Climate Change Sen­a­tor Sherry Rehman warned that Sindh is still in a dangerous situation as the water level at Indus River is high, flood at Kotri Barrage with inflows of more than 600,000 cusecs.

 

Talking about the flood situation in the province of Sindh, Ms Sherry said the high flood situation in the Indus River was posing a serious threat to the surrounding regions and could lead to untoward situation in upper parts of Sindh.

 

She also warned of more rain is expected in the southern parts of Sindh, which she said could prove detrimental to relief and rescue operations underway in flood-affected areas. The rescue and relief team is already facing challenges in the provision of supplies, she says.

 

About outbreak of dengue cases reported in Karachi, she said the number of cases 50 percent higher than the last year, which is very alarming. Government is doing all possible efforts within the available resources to provide medicines supplies to 81 calamity-hit districts. The work is being speed up by district administration in their respective areas.

 

She said, food insecurity is another challenge posing by the government around 70 percent of the onion crop along with rice and maize had been completely destroyed due the heavy rains.

 

It is massive loss at national level even though urgent relief in the form of food, tents and medicines was being provided by national and provincial disaster management authorities within their capabilities, we need more resources were required to meet the needs of flood-victims on ground, she says.
