Hyderabad’s waste management landscape is undergoing a significant transformation under the leadership of Faheem Awan, General Manager of Operations at Altas Pak Hyderabad. The company launched a comprehensive nine-year waste management project in November 2022, aiming to enhance environmental sustainability and improve waste disposal practices across the city.
The initiative is being executed in four phases, targeting different zones for efficient waste collection and disposal. Latifabad was the first area to benefit from the program in November 2022, followed by Qasimabad on February 10, 2023. Hyderabad City was incorporated into the initiative on March 10, 2023, while Kotri became part of the project on May 10, 2023.
Currently, the project serves a population of approximately 2 million residents, managing a daily waste volume of 1,170 tonnes. The vast scale of operations is supported by a robust workforce of 1,600 employees and a fleet of 200 specialized vehicles, including 110 mini-dumpers, 22 compactors, and 20 tractor trolleys. Additionally, 680 strategically placed waste containers ensure accessible disposal points across the city.
With operations spanning 132 Union Councils (UCs), each UC is equipped with 12 sanitation workers under the supervision of field coordinators. This structured approach ensures daily waste collection, efficient transportation to disposal sites, and a sustained effort toward city cleanliness and environmental health.
Altas Pak Hyderabad plans to introduce advanced recycling programs, public awareness campaigns, and technological innovations to optimize waste management efficiency. With a commitment to sustainability, the initiative is set to create a cleaner, healthier, and greener Hyderabad for future generations.
