The Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) Karachi, in collaboration with PRIED and Earthwise, brought climate change to the forefront with an inspiring documentary screening and panel discussion titled Bringing Climate Stories to Light. The event featured two impactful documentaries, Motherland and Dry Wells, both shedding light on the environmental challenges facing Thar, Sindh.
A distinguished panel discussion followed the screenings, moderated by Manager CEJ and Acting Head Taimoor Ahmed. The session featured renowned panelists, including Academy Award-winning filmmaker Haya Fatima Iqbal, senior journalist Shahzeb Jillani, environmental activist Abira Ashfaq, and BBC journalist Riaz Sohail. Together, they explored the urgent climate crises affecting Pakistan, emphasizing the role of media in amplifying climate justice narratives.
A major highlight of the event was the public premiere of one of the documentaries, marking a significant milestone for Director & Videographer Usama Irfan, who showcased his compelling storytelling through the lens of climate impact in Thar.
The event attracted a dynamic audience, including students and faculty from Hamdard University, IBA University, and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari. Renowned journalists and climate advocates were also present, engaging in a critical dialogue on the intersection of storytelling and environmental activism.
