The Maholiyati Tahfuz Movement (Environmental Protection Movement) along with Climate Action Center, Karachi organized a Climate March at Frere Hall in Karachi.
This event gathered environmental activists, community members, students, and other concerned citizens to raise awareness about climate issues in Pakistan, particularly in Karachi. Participants addressed key issues like pollution, deforestation, water scarcity, and the effects of climate change on vulnerable communities. These marches aim to encourage government action, push for eco-friendly policies, and promote sustainable practices in urban planning and resource management.
The march also highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable communities, including those facing economic hardship, and demanded climate justice. Karachi, a city already battling severe air pollution, urban flooding, and waste management issues, has seen worsening environmental challenges due to rapid urbanization and lack of green spaces. The march sought to bring these issues to the forefront, urging citizens to adopt sustainable practices while calling on authorities to prioritize environmental policies that promote sustainable development and address climate risks effectively.
This event reflects growing public awareness and concern about climate issues in Pakistan, which ranks high in terms of vulnerability to climate change despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions.
